Frequently asked questions
Which grades will you serve?
Village & Valor Academy will serve kindergarten through fifth grade, beginning with our founding classes in Fall 2027.
When will the school open?
We plan to open in Fall 2027 in Richmond, Virginia. Families on our interest list will be the first to hear key dates as they are announced.
Does my child need to be academically advanced?
No. High expectations do not mean children must arrive ahead. They mean thoughtful teaching and real support for learners at different starting points. What matters most is a family who shares our belief in challenging work and a warm, structured environment. We encourage you to discuss your child's specific needs with our team.
How do you support children who need additional help?
Teachers check for understanding frequently, teach in small groups, and communicate with families promptly when a child needs more support or is ready for additional challenge. As a new school, we are still establishing specialized services, so please talk with our team about your child's individual needs before applying.
How is cultural affirmation reflected in instruction?
Accurate, age-appropriate study of Black history and contributions is woven throughout the curriculum all year — in the books children read, the scientists and artists they study, and the local history they explore. Every child's name, identity, and family story are treated with respect.
Can families from any background apply?
Yes. Village & Valor welcomes families of all backgrounds. We are an independent, nonreligious school, and we intentionally affirm the identities, histories, and possibilities of children of color within a community where every child belongs.
Will extended care be available?
We plan to offer extended care until 5:30 p.m. Details, including pricing and enrollment, will be shared before applications open.
How can I learn about tuition and financial assistance?
Tuition and financial assistance details will be shared before applications open. Join our interest list through the family inquiry form to receive updates as soon as they are available.
Have a question we didn't answer?
Every family's situation is different. Send us your question through the family inquiry form and we'll respond personally.
